VietNam Design Week (VNDW) is the premier annual event in Vietnam dedicated to discovering and celebrating the country’s most exceptional products and designers across various fields: Communication Design, Living Design, Decor & Object Design, Clothing Design, and Public Design. The event features a rich array of activities, including design competitions, awards, fairs, exhibitions, seminars, and workshops, all aimed at nurturing and promoting the design industry and Vietnam’s cultural and creative sectors.
The mission of VietNam Design Week is to elevate the value of Vietnamese creative products both in the domestic and international markets. VNDW serves as an effective platform to connect the contemporary design community with traditional craft villages throughout the country.
The theme for VietNam Design Week 2023 is “Embracing Constraints.” This theme addresses the global crisis of fuel and raw material shortages, presenting a challenge that requires comprehensive innovation. Designers are encouraged to reduce resource extraction and focus on reusing existing materials. Old items, surplus stock, defective goods, and even discarded objects become rich and abundant resources for design. Reusing these materials reduces the demand for new raw materials to create new products. Adapting to environmental changes and proposing solutions to new challenges is not only a survival instinct but also a necessary and urgent practice in this era.
